Dr. Tara Peyman

Dr. Tara Peyman is a licensed naturopathic doctor and the medical director of Integrative Mental Health Center in Scottsdale, Arizona. Since 2007, she has been focusing in the homeopathic and integrative treatment of bipolar disorder and mental illness. Her treatment program for mental health is tailored to each individual. She is familiar with psychiatric medications and can assist patients in either tapering off these prescriptions or integrating them with naturopathic care if necessary.

She focuses on addressing the underlying causes illness and empowers the patient to effectively treat those deeper concerns using homeopathy and natural medicine. She was trained by some of the best classical homeopathic physicians in the country and internationally and applies these highly effective methods in treating people suffering with depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, OCD, PTSD, and many other conditions.

Dr. Peyman chose to focus in treating bipolar disorder after finding that there was such an enormous need for homeopathic options for people with this condition. Once she saw how well people with bipolar typically respond to homeopathic medicine, she decided to direct her entire practice towards helping people overcome bipolar disorder. Another driving force for her interest in treating mood disorders is personal. Dr. Peyman struggled with depression and panic disorder as a teenager and in college, and she found total relief with homeopathic medicine, under the care of a doctor who was later one of her homeopathy teachers in medical school. Bipolar disorder runs in her family, and she saw what an impact it can have when untreated. Finding a method that is not only safe and natural, but in most cases more effective than prescription medications, was inspiring. This experience motivates her to make sure she help as many people as she can to reach a place of healthy remission.

Dr. Peyman received her naturopathic medical degree in 2007 from the Sonoran University in Tempe, Arizona. She grew up in New Haven, Connecticut, and later studied psychology and biology at Antioch College in Ohio. While attending naturopathic medical school, she acted as Public Relations Representative for the Southwest College Naturopathic Society, and was subsequently elected President of the organization. After starting her practice, she developed a nonprofit educational organization called Homeopathic Medicine for Mental Health (HMMH), and presented continuing education seminars for HMMH from 2010 to 2016. Dr. Peyman was honored with the Advancing Naturopathic Medicine Award from Sonoran University in 2019, and she also serves as Vice President of the Psychiatric Association of Naturopathic Physicians. She is a co-author of Naturopathic Clinical Boards Practice Exams, and has written articles for Naturopathic Doctor News & Review, Institute of Natural Medicine, AZNet News, Vegetarian Times Magazine, and other publications. When not practicing medicine, she enjoys painting, hiking, cooking, yoga, and mindfulness meditation.

But if you want the heart behind the resume- here’s how it all began:

“It was motherhood that propelled me to find homeopathy. I had always been drawn to holistic medicine, like an internal compass. After the birth of my first child, I began working with an MD/Homeopath, though it wasn’t until the birth of my younger son that the power of those little remedies really sank in.

My second labor was fast and furious, and my son was born with the cord around his neck and in need of oxygen. My midwife asked if I had any Aconite, a commonly indicated remedy for fear and shock. Luckily, I did. Within a second of putting a few small pellets on his tongue his screaming ceased and he looked into our eyes for the first time.

I can say now, looking back, that this was my conversion moment.

Now, I am immersed in homeopathy every day with a busy practice in between teaching and supervising at AHE. When not consulting with students or clients, I’m hiking with my dogs, trying to schedule time with my teen children or enjoying the midlife years with my husband of 23 years, Kevin.

Kelly Callahan

It was motherhood that propelled me to find homeopathy. Truthfully, I really didn’t know anything about it, other than it was natural and safe for babies. I had always been drawn to holistic medicine, like an internal compass. I asked around, was referred to an excellent Homoeopath/MD in town, and made an appointment. Although we had great success with our first remedies, myself included- I still didn’t quite “get it.” I didn’t comprehend the power of those little remedies until my son was born. My second labor was fast and furious and my son was born with the cord around his neck and in need of oxygen. Once he pinked up, he screamed. We rocked him, sang to him, gently massaged him. Nothing. A newborn scream for anything longer than oh, two seconds, is nerve-wracking, but this went on for minutes. My midwife asked if I had any Aconite, a commonly indicated remedy for fear and shock. Luckily, I did. Within a second of putting a few small globules of this homeopathic remedy on his tongue his screaming ceased, and he looked into our eyes for the first time. I can say now, looking back, that this was my conversion moment.

After this seemingly miraculous experience, I bought my first home-prescribing book (Miranda Castro’s The Complete Homeopathy Handbook) and started reading and experimenting with reprioritization (the process of finding remedies by cross-referencing symptoms).

I was amazed when I found that Spongia improved my son’s croupy cough overnight. And more amazed still that a dose of Antimonium tartaricum cleaned up that goopy, wet cough that rattled in his lungs. I had to know more, and having decided that I would not return back to full-time teaching, I began to look for homeopathic training programs.

Initially I studied with Nancy Frederick, CCH RS (Hom) at the Baylight Center for Homeopathy. I went on to further studies at the Dynamis School for Advanced Homeopathy with Jeremy Sherr, as well as occasional other seminars with Louis Klein, Farokh Master, and others.

I’ve been in private practice since 2011, but very quickly integrated my first love for teaching. I taught clinical skills, philosophy and case analysis at the Baylight Center for Homeopathy 2016-2020, started my podcast, 1M: a Homeopath’s Podcast in 2016, and joined the faculty at the Academy for Homeopathy Education in 2019.

Teaching and practicing homeopathy together have rooted within me the realization that healing is learning, and learning is healing.

Homeopathy Changes Lives. I’VE EXPERIENCED IT IN MY OWN LIFE, I WITNESS IT IN THE LIVES OF MY PATIENTS. Whether it’s recovering from the flu in half the time, healing from an injury without pain killers, resolving an old hurt, or feeling a lift out of depression… homeopathy meets you where you’re at.

There’s nothing more powerful than feeling the results of your own healing potential.
