When Homeopathy Fails

Do you have that super annoying friend who loves to talk about Crossfit and how healthy they are because they look great? But every time they get sick they have to pop antibiotics or other meds? 

Or maybe you have a friend who says, “I never get sick,” but when they do (because sooner or later EVERYONE gets sick) they are really, really sick and need meds.

It’s like you have a nagging feeling that they aren’t really healthy, but you can’t quite put your finger on why.

It’s frustrating to be doing everything you think you should be doing and not be healthy. I’ve been there. Just because you are running a triathlon, doesn’t mean you are totally healthy (and vice versa), even though the world would say differently. 

I’ve done multiple triathlons myself. One of them I swam a mile in the ocean. I also went through a phase where I literally never got sick. Once my entire extended family got the flu–I mean everyone. Adults, kids, everyone. And I was the only one who didn’t catch it. But guess what? 

I was the sickest person of all. I couldn’t eat or digest a multitude of ingredients. I was suffering from multiple autoimmune diseases, and I was miserable. I was not healthy, although by the world’s standards, I was the picture of health—a victim of my genes and that’s all. 

So today, I’m going to talk about three steps you can take to get your body truly healthy.

Strengthen Your Terrain

To really cement your understanding of terrain theory, watch this video that I developed as part of the Teach Kids Homeopathy curriculum (also part of my Homeopathy Book Club Program for adults). 

I walk you through my own garden showing you how a garden is like Terrain Theory. This mom understands that homeopathy is more than switching Advil to arnica, but instead is a holistic approach that requires time, effort, learning through trial and error, and feeding the body what it needs.  

Strengthening your terrain essentially means you treat yourself well: 

  1. Good sleep
  2. One probiotic rich food in every one of your meals. 
  3. Real fats like butter
  4. Less toxic relationships
  5. Boundaries
  6. Time to rest
  7. Yes exercise, but not to excess

This is where homeopathy fails. If you do not do your part in strengthening your terrain, you are limiting your body’s ability to respond to homeopathy. There is only so much homeopathy can do for you because it encourages YOUR BODY to heal. 

My friends, Camilla and Jeremy Sherr run an amazing clinic in Tanzania, Africa. It’s called Homeopathy for Health in Africa. They do amazing work and I donate to them monthly. One of the things they encounter is that their patients, many of whom suffer with HIV, have a hard time responding to homeopathy because they are so malnourished and physically stressed. So they really see the impact.

But we abuse our body too, here in western culture. We are over-nourished. Or, in other words, we are full of food but we are not eating nutrient-dense foods. 

And not coincidentally, nothing strengthens your terrain like step two:

Avoid Superfluous Meds

If you spend a decade eating perfectly and nourishing your gut bacteria, even one round of antibiotics eliminates a lifetime of gut flora. We cleared our land earlier this year to make room for pasture, and yes we have seedlings and grass growing, but that forest will take decades to recover. Antibiotics are like a bulldozer in your gut flora. You’re not going to be back to normal a year later. 

You need to understand what the long term perspective is: building your body up stronger, not killing both good and bad every time you’re sick. Avoiding drugs like antibiotics and steroids will do more for your long term health than any triathlon, diet, or cleanse.

Assist Your Body When Sick

This step is where homeopathy comes in. Homeopathy isn’t like a drug that takes over and kills the infection for you. It uses your own innate healing ability to give your body the information it needs to heal itself. So, when you’re stuck with a sinus infection, you don’t reach for the drugs. You reach for the correct homeopathic remedy, and your body will get the info it needs to heal. 

And guess what? You probably won’t be getting that same sinus infection again. Sometimes, if something you deal with is super chronic, like chronic sinus infections, it will take a few more rounds of going through that illness for your body to learn the process. And you probably need a professional homeopath to get you through that, but the message is that your body needs to learn.

A smart body creates a strong environment for you to reach health.

People want health, but they don’t know the underlying path to get there. They don’t know how to define it. HEALTH is not measured by never getting sick or how quickly you can run a mile. Health is measured by how well your body can overcome an illness.

Sometimes, people come to homeopathy thinking that a homeopathic remedy will fix everything for them. And while yes, homeopathy can help tremendously with your health, ultimately, it all comes down to supporting your body’s terrain.
